Nuart Aberdeen was pleased to present an extensive education programme in the lead up to the 2026 festival. This kicked off with a detailed education pack, produced by festival partners Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council, which was distributed to teachers in all Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire schools in mid February. This education pack covered:
- Information on Nuart Aberdeen's history and impact on the city centre, including video content and highlights from previous years
- A section dedicated to poetry with local and national poets providing their unique thoughts and viewpoints to inspire the children including some of their own works
- Detailed activity briefs for the school children to take part in Nuart Aberdeen 2026.
Nuart Aberdeen: School Pupil Submissions
Through the education pack, pupils were invited to submit an illustrated poem or piece of writing for inclusion in the Nuart Aberdeen 2026 festival. Artworks submitted are now displayed across multiple locations in Aberdeen City Centre and show, quite literally, that ‘poetry is in the streets’ of Aberdeen!
You can find the children's artworks in the following locations:
- Exchange Street (Flint Hording Paste Up)
- Aberdeen Train Station
- 148 Union Street
- Aberdeen Art Gallery (Level 1)
Chalk Don't Chalk - in the playground!
Pupils were also tasked to work together as a school to design and create a vibrant 3m x 3m chalk display in their school grounds. Using words inspired by their community we were delighted to see the children in action along with their finished pieces. A display showing the children's creations can be found in the arches at Union Terrace Gardens, and you can also find pictures from the project on the 'Views of Aberdeen’ digital screen in Gallery 15 at Aberdeen Art Gallery.
