Major milestone on the road to the Tall Ships is cause for celebration

It was a pleasure to this week mark the 500 days milestone until the arrival of the Tall Ships Race in Aberdeen in July next year.

The response to reaching that landmark date and the unveiling of some of the details around the biggest event to grace the Granite City in decades has been heartening.

Clearly, people are excited by the prospect of these beautiful ships arriving at the Port of Aberdeen and the wealth of fun and entertainment that will be built around the four days they will be here.

As one of the partners responsible for securing the world-class Tall Ships event for the city – along with the Port of Aberdeen and Aberdeen City Council – the public reaction and anticipation make all the hard work up until now so worthwhile.

But that hard work is only just beginning and the 500-day countdown is just one of many landmarks on the road ahead.

A veritable army of people are striving to make The Tall Ships Race Aberdeen 2025 something which will create lifelong memories for people – whether simply enjoying the spectacle of the largest free family even in Europe or having life-changing experiences as Sail Trainees.

Now we need even more recruits to the cause, whether it’s businesses taking advantage of the many sponsorship packages available or answering the call to volunteer to help the Tall Ships make a mark.

And make a mark it will – cementing Aberdeen’s reputation as a must-visit city while giving our city centre businesses and attractions a chance to shine and attract even more footfall, even more business and create an even bigger boost for the economy while the ships are here – and beyond.

500 days might seem like a long time, but the Tall Ships will be here before we know it.

I know the people of Aberdeen – from ordinary folk to captains of industry – will rise to the challenge of making it an event people will love and remember for the rest of their lives.

Best wishes,

Adrian Watson, Chief Executive, Aberdeen Inspired

Nuart Aberdeen’s top team has been in the Granite City scouting for walls to transform into works of art this June

They have identified almost 50 locations where world-acclaimed street artists can work their magic during the festival, which will run from June 6 to 9, attracting thousands of people to the city centre.

Olivia Skalkos, festival manager, said: “We’ve been here for a couple of days and we have identified 47 potential walls and we’re hoping the owners say yes to potentially being part of Nuart.”

They have been exploring the streets looking for possible new sites, while also calling in at legacy works left by previous Nuart Aberdeen festivals, which has been staged by Aberdeen Inspired since 2017.
