Nimi and RH74 are a Norwegian street art duo who have worked together on several Nuart projects to date. Bergen-based, artist Nimi grew up in England and has been an integral part of the Norwegian street art scene for over two decades. RH74 is a Stavanger-based artist and street art enthusiast whose work is a blend of fine and urban art.
Painted by Nimi and RH74 (Renate) the collaborative piece depicts the famous ghost, the Green Lady of Crathes castle, which she holds in her arms. Originally Nimi wanted to paint the Green Lady with Dunnotar castle but some research revealed Crathes to be a better fit. She is draped in the Aberdeen tartan and you can see a tear running down her face.
Originally the plan was to obscure her face, much like Milu's work as during his research Nimi discovered numerous tales of servant girls being abused and ultimately murdered by their so-called betters. In our modern times we can sometimes soften history to make it fit more with our romantic notions of the past so it was important for Nimi and Renate to capture the sadness of the green lady, despite how beautiful she is.
The pair worked with a host of local artists who added the numerous flowers along the bottom and helped with some of the larger painted areas with Katie Guthrie, Mary Butterworth and local graffiti artist Charlie Kelman all contributing. They also welcomed a special helper with the property shop owners daughter adding a flower and a pony to the small shed in the car park. She was also gifted a signed empty spray can by the artists. The Green Lady follows the theme of 2018's festival which looked to Aberdeen and shire, along with its history for inspiration
