There are dance shows, and then there are productions that leave you smiling long after the final curtain falls. Scott School of Dancing's Elevate, which opened at His Majesty's Theatre, Aberdeen, last night (Wednesday, July 1), is firmly in the latter category.
From the moment the curtain rose, it was evident just how much thought, creativity and dedication had gone into every aspect of the production. Beautiful costumes, imaginative choreography and well-crafted themed sections combined to create a show that was polished, entertaining and full of energy.
Most impressive of all, however, was the standard of dancing. From the tiniest toddlers taking their very first steps on stage to the oldest teenagers performing with confidence, grace and professionalism, every dancer delivered a point-perfect performance. It was a wonderful showcase of talent and a testament to the exceptional teaching and encouragement provided by the Scott School of Dancing.

Watching the performance also brought back a flood of memories of my own dancing days with the Birse School of Dancing under the wonderful, watchful eye of Miss Jean Birse. It served as a reminder that dance is about so much more than perfecting routines. It nurtures confidence, builds lifelong friendships, teaches discipline and inspires compassion - qualities that were evident throughout the evening.
There were many standout moments, but one of the highlights was hearing young Sam Gray aged just 8 perform Razzle Dazzle from Chicago. Delivering such a demanding number with confidence and charisma at such a young age was remarkable. Supported by an excellent ensemble of dancers, it brought the house to life and earned richly deserved applause.
On a personal note, I must give a special mention to my niece, Anna Byrne. This was her final show with the dance school she has attended since she could walk. Anna has grown into a beautiful dancer and a natural performer who commands the stage with elegance and confidence. Watching her take her final bow with the school was both emotional and immensely proud. She truly shone like the bright star she is.

Congratulations to everyone involved - teachers, choreographers, backstage crew, volunteers, parents and, most importantly, every single performer. Elevate is a celebration of talent, hard work, teamwork and the sheer joy of dance. It is a production that reflects not only technical excellence but also the heart and spirit of a school that has helped generations of young people flourish both on and off the stage.
If you enjoy dance, music and first-class local talent, don't miss the opportunity to see Elevate. It runs at His Majesty's Theatre until Saturday, 4 July, with performances at 7pm. You'll leave the theatre thoroughly entertained and reminded of the extraordinary power of the performing arts to inspire, unite and create memories that last a lifetime.
