Another Scottish football legend has joined Aberdeen Inspired’s campaign to Paint The Town Tartan for the World Cup.

Rachel Corsie took time out of her hectic World Cup schedule as a co-commentator for the BBC to record a special message urging as many people as possible to come into town and Paint The Town Tartan as the Granite City gets behind the Scottish squad.

She said: “How amazing it is to see everyone Paint The Town Tartan. Get behind the Scotland team, join the celebrations, get yourself into town, get behind the boys and hopefully we can get ourselves the result that gets us through this group.

“Enjoy, stay safe, all the best – and Paint That Town Tartan!”

Rachel is one of the most respected figures in women’s football with a glittering club career and no stranger to World Cup action, having captained the Scotland’s national women’s team in 2019.

Since announcing her retirement from playing she has carved out a career as a valued and insightful pundit and commentator, including with the BBC’s presenting team for the World Cup 2026.

Rachel joins Scotland and Dons legends Willie Miller and Alex McLeish in backing the Paint The Town Tartan campaign.

Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “We are thrilled to have the Scottish icon that is Rachel Corsie join our Paint The Town Tartan campaign, urging people to get into the city centre and join in the celebrations of Scotland’s return to the World Cup for the first time in a generation.

“The campaign isn’t just about supporting Steve Clarke and the boys, but also about supporting our bricks and mortars businesses in the city centre.

!I hope everyone answers Rachel’s call to come into town, spend some time here, visit the shops, go for a bite to eat, have a couple of drinks and then get ready to cheer Scotland on. Let’s Paint The Town Tartan!”

As part of Paint The Town Tartan, Aberdeen Inspired has brought back the nostalgic Spot The Ball competition where newspaper readers had to guess where the missing ball was in a match-day action photo.

Venues taking part will hide a miniature Subbuteo-size football on their premises for customers to find and win prizes such as in-store discounts and giveaways.

The top prize will be a “golden ball” £100 Aberdeen Gift Card – with £20 added to that value for every goal Scotland scores on their World Cup journey. Thanks to Scotland’s 1-0 win over Haiti, the pot is now £120.

Look out on Aberdeen Inspired’s socials and website for participating businesses to see what’s up for grabs.
