I went along to the opening night of Friends: The Musical Parody at His Majesty’s Theatre, not quite feeling myself - but it didn’t take long for the show to work its magic.
From the very first scene, I found myself chuckling my way through a clever, fast-paced retelling of some of the most iconic moments from the TV series, reimagined with plenty of musical flair and witty songs carrying the action.
I spoke to a couple of my own Friends who were at the show, and we agreed you do need to be a fan of the iconic TV series to get the very most out of this love letter to Friends.
The script is packed with references to memorable jokes and moments from the much-loved show, so fans familiar with the original will appreciate the humour on a deeper level.
The characterisation is superb from head to toe (yes, including Rachel’s iconic shoes). Each member of the main cast delivers standout physical comedy performances that really tie the whole production together.

They capture the characters’ mannerisms with impressive precision - from their movements and vocal intonation to the smallest details in body language.
At times, it genuinely feels like you’re watching an episode of Friends - just with a lot more singing.
Alongside the core group, a host of fan-favourite characters make memorable appearances throughout the show.
Gunther deserves special mention - the actor takes on multiple roles with impressive versatility, and his vocal performance is nothing short of outstanding, earning one of the biggest rounds of applause of the night.
Other familiar faces pop up too, including Marcel the monkey and Tom Selleck, but it’s Janice who truly steals the spotlight. Her entrance is laugh-out-loud funny every single time, with brilliantly exaggerated physical comedy and spot-on character work.
It’s a performance that could easily be a highlight on its own - and one I’d happily recommend the show for.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan or just in the mood for a good laugh, it’s a joyful trip back into a world that still feels as familiar - and entertaining - as ever.
