Many of Aberdeen city centre’s restaurants have signed up to a new project which aims to boost customer numbers and showcase the best cuisine in the Granite City.

Aberdeen’s second Restaurant Week will run from Monday 3 September 2018, to Sunday, 9 September.

More than 20 restaurants have signed up so far and each has created a unique menu for the event with a simple pricing structure. A two-course lunch will be priced at £10 per person and a three-course dinner will cost £20 per person.

Participating restaurants include, Bistro Verde, Rye & Soda, Café Harmony, Topolabamba, 99 Bar and Kitchen and the Carmelite.

The initiative has been launched by leading business organisation Aberdeen Inspired to encourage visitors and residents to support city centre restaurants during what is traditionally a quiet time of the year.

Nicola Johnston, Evening and Night Time Economy Manager of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “We are delighted with the response we’ve had from city centre businesses about the second Aberdeen Restaurant Week.

“As well as having some of Aberdeen’s best restaurants involved, we hope to encourage eateries to be imaginative and take full advantage of the initiative. This time, we will also have a slow food pop up at Café Contour as well as other events across the city.

“Aberdeen Restaurant Week offers a unique opportunity for customers to explore some of the best of Aberdeen’s cuisine and acts as an incentive for them to perhaps try somewhere they have never been before.”

Billy Byrne, general manager of Topolabamba on Union Street said: “Topolabamba took part in the first Aberdeen Restaurant Week earlier this year. We had a considerable increase in bookings, with many of our guests visiting our restaurant for the first time. Aberdeen Inspired were well organised and provided plenty of support and media coverage. We are delighted to be taking part again this September.”

James McEwen, bar manager of McGinty’s Meal An’ Ale, said: “It’s fantastic to see Aberdeen Restaurant Week making a return following a successful campaign earlier in the year. At McGinty’s, we proudly served hearty homemade Scottish food daily and during restaurant week, it provides us with a great opportunity to showcase our offering to those who have maybe not dined with us before. We are excited to welcome our regulars and new customers in September.”

Aberdeen Inspired is the banner under which the Aberdeen Business Improvement District (BID) operates. It is a business-led initiative within the city centre in which levy payers within the BID zone contribute.

Proceeds are used to fund projects designed to improve the business district. Due to its on-going success, the organisation won 2017 European BID of the Year in July.
