Our very own winter wonderland, the Curated in the Quad market at Marischal College, will once again create a magical atmosphere this weekend, where you can pick out the perfect gifts for your family and friends from our amazing range of stallholders. Over the coming weeks, we will introduce you to a few who are selling their interesting items at this year’s market.
Today it’s the turn of George and Maggi Dawson from Intricate Designs, who design handmade and laser cut wooden gifts. Intricate Designs is a fantastic Scottish brand based in Buckie with a shop set up in Cullen. Offering hand-crafted and bespoke items for sale, Intricate Designs is one to look to out for and will be at the market across three weekends, from today and December 10-12 and 17-19.

Hello! Can you tell us more about Intricate Designs and why you set up the company?
Woodwork has been George’s passion for over 20 years, with this experience and Maggi's designs we have expanded our range and taken it from a small hobby to a thriving business. Now, with the laser engraver added to the business for personalisation, it has given us a much wider stock base and a larger audience to market our woodwork to.
Can you tell us about the products you are selling at the Christmas market?
We have a varied range of wooden gifts, from hand-cut fretsaw pieces in varying sizes to laser engraved gifts and a combination of the two. Customers can also view our range of plaques, keyholders, coasters, clocks, keyrings, Christmas ornaments, tree decorations, cards and much more, we have a varied price range to suit everyone!
Why did you decide to take part in this year’s Curated in the Quad market?
We’ve taken part in the Christmas market for the last few years and each year we continue to get an amazing response from visitors! As we continue to build our profile each year, it leads to further orders and visits to our own shop in Buckie, where we sell our own crafts as well as others from local artists.
What are you looking forward to?
Diversity! We find at Curated in the Quad, our customers are diverse in their locations, ideas, needs and purchases. Our best experience from any show or event has been the people we meet. The organisation of the event is top notch, and the event organisers are extremely helpful and informative. Plus, the Quad itself is so cute!
