A planning application has been submitted by John Codona’s Pleasure Fair Ltd (Codona’s) to bring the Christmas Village and Curated in the Quad Market back to Broad Street and Marischal College Quadrangle this festive season.
The application seeks permission to hold the festive extravaganza on Broad Street from Thursday 17 November until Friday 31 December 2022.
As part of the submission permission is sought to site the hugely popular Curated in the Quad Christmas Market in Marischal Quad giving local producers of food and drink, art, crafts, clothing, homeware, gifts and jewellery a retail opportunity in the heart of the city.
Organised by Charlie House in partnership with Aberdeen Inspired, last year the market raised over £15,000 for Charlie House, a local children's charity that aims to improve the quality of life for babies, children and young people in the north-east of Scotland who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and provide support to their families.
Commenting on the “Susan Crighton, Director of Fundraising at Charlie House said “Charlie House is delighted to again be the chosen charity for this year’s Curated in the Quad Christmas Market. The Quad is a great space to visit to find a unique gift made by a local craftsperson. As the chosen charity, the families we support will benefit from the Christmas spirit for the whole of the year.”
Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired added “Should the planning application be successful, it will be great to see the popular outdoor Curated in the Quad Market return to the city centre this year as part of the Christmas Village. Last year thousands of visitors and shoppers flocked to the Quad and Christmas Village and we hope this festive shopping experience will generate even greater returns for the city and Charlie House.
“This year, more than ever it’s so important that people shop local and buy their gifts from shops and businesses in the city centre. Aberdeen is a fantastic city and is always that little bit more magical when it’s transformed for the Christmas festivities. Christmas in the city has something for everyone and encourages people into the city centre boosting both the wider retail and leisure economy.
“The Christmas market not only gives small, independent businesses an opportunity to showcase their products to a new audience, but it raises valuable funds for Charlie House,” he added.
Operating on Friday, Saturday and Sunday each weekend from 18 November until 18 December, applications for the market stalls, priced at £180 for the weekend, are now open with demand expected to be high. Interested traders should apply by 16 October 2022.
Previous outdoor Curated in the Quad Markets were held in 2018 and 2019 and 2021, attracting thousands of shoppers and visitors into the city centre.
The Curated in the Quad Market will run from 11am to 7pm on Friday and Saturday and 11am to 6pm on Sunday, from November 18 until December 18.
As the city centre Business Improvement District (BID), Aberdeen Inspired is supporting the planned festive events in the city centre.
