The popular Aberdeen Letters are taking a break as Spectra moves into Union Terrace Gardens - but they'll be back. Image - Glen Cairns/Visit Aberdeenshire

The iconic big Aberdeen Letters are taking a wee break.

The Hollywood-style sign, which has become synonymous with the Granite City and launched a thousand (or more selfies), is temporarily coming out of Union Terrace Gardens to let Spectra shine.

The Letters will be going into storage from this weekend as preparations begin for the Festival of Light to take over the gardens during the popular event, which will run from February 8 to 11.

The Aberdeen Letters will return once the clear-up operation for Spectra is over and should be back in place at Union Terrace Gardens in all their sparkling glory within a month.

In the meantime, let’s all get along and enjoy the spectacular delights of Spectra – and support our local businesses while you are in town.
