Union Terrace Gardens has become a “wonderland of fun” for the weekend as Charlie House’s Big Bounce sprung into life today, Thursday, August 8.

The hugely-popular family event boasts a fun-filled array of attractions from bouncy castles to inflatable axe-throwing and carnival-style games, as well as stalls for face painting and glitter tattoos.

Opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning and running until Sunday, August 11, Big Bounce – which is supported by Aberdeen Inspired – will not only offer fun and excitement for children and families but also raise funds for the vital work of Charlie House.

The north-east charity’s mission is to improve the quality of life for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families.

Big Bounce will also attract hundreds of people into the city centre to not only enjoy the event in Union Terrace Gardens, but also discover other city centre attractions, shops and eateries.

Danuta Dobrzanska, business engagement and development manager for Aberdeen Inspired, said the Business Improvement District was delighted to be part of the fun-filled event.

“It really is a joy to see the colourful bouncy castles, games and transform Union Terrace Gardens into a thrilling wonderland for families for the next four days.

“Aberdeen Inspired is delighted to be part of something which will bring so many people – young and old – into the city centre, creating a real carnival atmosphere while also increasing footfall and giving local businesses a boost.

“The biggest reward, though, will be the huge smiles and shrieks of laughter from children who are having a great time – all while helping raise funds for the vital work of Charlie House.

“We would encourage as many people as possible to bounce along to Union Terrace Gardens and join in the fun.”

John Brebner, chief executive officer of Charlie House, said he was absolutely delighted to see Big Bounce return to the city centre.

He said: “We didn’t run the event last year so it’s great for it to be back on our calendar, particularly in the lovely setting of the rejuvenated Union Terrace Gardens in the heart of the city.

“We are looking forward to all the children and families have a great time over the weekend. Because it’s in the centre of the city, it is accessible and the families we support can gain access to the gardens as wells. So, it allows people to come into the city centre to not only visit our event, but other areas of the city as well.”

John said Big Bounce was not only a great event for the community, but also a great way to help Charlie Raise funds while providing a fun event for everyone to enjoy.

“Just come along to Big Bounce, enjoy it and hopefully the weather will hold for us this weekend. It will be a great time and there really is something for everyone.”
