Dinosaurs are set to invade the heart of Aberdeen for the October school holidays – and the arrival of the brick-built monsters has been met with a roar of approval.
Iconic Bricks Dinosaur Trail will be a two-week event from October 12 to 27 that will see an exciting new free family-fun trail located throughout the city centre - with free parking available in two city centre car parks.
Visitors and locals will be able to discover 18 brick dinosaur models at various city centre businesses, including a Stegosaurus, Triceratops and adorable baby dinosaurs.
The trail, backed by Aberdeen City Council, will also an insight into how each model is made, including how many bricks were used to build the model and information on each dinosaur.
Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Christian Allard said: “This is a fantastic event to look forward to during the school holidays and will be a great family day out.
“I would encourage everyone to take part in this fun new trail, and also to take the time to visit all the local businesses across the city centre.”
The family-friendly initiative was also welcomed by Aberdeen Inspired, chief executive Adrian Watson.
“The Iconic Bricks Dinosaur Trail is sure to be a roaring success. Kids of all ages love dinosaurs and these models are set to be a fun – and fascinating – addition to the city centre during the school break,” said Adrian.
“We welcome anything and everything that brings people into the city centre, encourages them to linger here, while supporting local businesses. This Dinosaur Trail is bound to be a monster hit on all those fronts.”
Also available will be the Hidden Lego Minifigurine Competition, where small Lego figurines have been hidden in 10 shop windows around the Upperkirkgate and Belmont Street area for people of all ages to find in a treasure-hunt style challenge.
Once each minifigure is found, there is an opportunity to enter a prize draw to win an Aberdeen Gift Card – brought to the city by Aberdeen Inspired - worth £20.
Additional activities will be available throughout the October holidays that will offer fun activities in various locations across the city that all ages can get involved with, including LEGO sessions, bookbug and animation.
The Iconic Bricks Dinosaur Trail has received £30,000 from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
