Robert Montgomery has been called a vandal, a street artist, a post-Situationist, a punk artist and the “poet’s Banksy”. He is noticeable for bringing a poetic voice to the discourse of text art through his paste-up artworks, murals and light installations. Originally from Scotland, he has exhibited at the 2011 Venice Biennale and 2012 Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India.
Straddling the contemporary and the street art world, Robert Montgomery is a Scottish artist now based in London. With work shown in galleries and musueums, it was on the streets that Roberts poems really have an impact. Dealing with complicated political and social issues, his street paste ups and poems have had a profound effect on the viewers, both locally and to a wider audience and his piece for Nuart Aberdeen looked at local business man and US president Donald Trump. A devisive figure, Montgomery used a section of a long poem to highlight the dreams and aspirations of the many which can be squashed by those in power. Painted over the course of 5 days, it provides a nice connection to his other works across the globe.
