Aberdeen Inspired are delighted to partner with the ADHD Foundation for a third year to create colourful umbrella installations in the city centre this summer.
Strings of coloured umbrellas are again to be seen across the city from the end of May until September 2024, with the aim to raise awareness and celebration of the ‘umbrella’ term of neurodiversity, which includes ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia and Tourette's Syndrome.
With 1 in 5 humans being neurodivergent, 1 in 67 of us on the autistic spectrum, 1 in 20 with ADHD or dyspraxia and 1 in 10 with dyslexia, many people have a combination of these differences in how humans process and interact with their environment and the people around them.
The umbrella installations brighten our city centre streets as well as conveying messages about ADHD and autism and raising awareness of the support that is available to individuals and families. Our main outdoor installation will return to Shiprow with an eye-catching ceiling of bright umbrellas creating a major attraction in the city centre.
Harbour Energy, the largest London-listed independent oil and gas company will return as our headline sponsor for the project. Additional sponsorship will come from Aberdeen based recruitment specialists TMM Recruitment.
Mini-installations for education establishments and businesses
Education establishments and businesses are being encouraged to sign up for an umbrella pack to install their own mini-installations.
Schools and businesses are encouraged to get creative with how they display the umbrellas and are welcome to decorate them further to create a more personal art display. Please see the tabs for more information on this opportunity.
More information on installation for education can be found here, businesses here.
