ELOISE GILLOW (UK/ES)

Eloise Gillow is a painter and muralist from the UK, currently based in Barcelona. Eloise paints in a realist style, having studied classical painting in Barcelona before painting in the
streets. She draws her imagery from her surroundings, interested in what is expressed by people’s body language, through their gestures and movements. She creates imagery that
can be interpreted on both individual and collective levels and that invites the viewer to reflect on where and how they find vitality, moments of slowing down and reaching into a
deeper undercurrent of connection to themselves, each other and the natural world.

2 Escif Final BKT6484 Jun11 6028 x 4021 bktfoto Web Res 1

ESCIF (ES)

Escif (Valencia, 1980) is a mural painter. He has been active in the street-art scene since the late 1990s. His work focuses mainly on the resignification of the city, based on the statement that life will always be more interesting than art. With a sharp drawing of clear lines and sober colours, his murals question current struggles, resistance movements, the challenges of capitalism, and the environmental problems that cloud our time. Sometimes his paintings are presented as minimal gestures that break into reality, to remind us of the beauty of everything that surrounds us.

Much of his work has been developed in Valencia, his hometown. He has carried out a large number of international projects in urban contexts around the world, always in direct contact with the public and the local context. His interventions include art centres such as the Power Station museum in Shanghai (China, 2016), IVAM museum (Valencia, 2017), Palais de Tokyo museum (Paris, 2018), CCCC museum (Valencia, 2020); and events such as the Biennial of Contemporary African Art (Dakar, 2014), OFF Manifesta X (Saint Petersburg 2014), in "Dismaland" project organised by Banksy in Weston-Super-Mare (England, 2015) and the Lyon Biennial (France, 2019).

Jamie Reid Final BKT6046 Jun10 7356 x 4906 bktfoto Web Res

JAMIE REID (UK)

Jamie Reid (born 1947) is a British artist and political activist. During his time at Croydon Art College, he was involved in the student movement of 1968 where he and Malcolm McLaren
organised an occupation of the college. In 1970, he co-founded the radical political magazine Suburban Press, where he developed his unique style of cut-up graphics and slogans. Reid is best known for designing album covers for the British punk rock band the Sex Pistols. His imagery became a defining aesthetic of punk rock, particularly in the United
Kingdom. Reid continues to design album covers and to engage visually with socio-political situations, such as Occupy, Extinction Rebellion and the Free Pussy Riot movement.

A recent focus has been his Eight Fold year series - a re-adaptation of his work from the late 60s and early 70s, bringing a new aesthetic to the same fundamental messages. Reid’s
exhibition Taking Liberties: Political Work 1970-2020 opened at Galerie Simpson Swansea and has toured the UK. This exhibition is scheduled to travel to de Montfort University,
Leicester, opening July 2023. Reid’s work is included in international collections including Tate Britain, Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Fine Art in Houston. He
is engaged with Liverpool John Moores University to secure the Jamie Reid Archive, and is actively involved with the Florence Institute community centre in Toxteth, Liverpool.

KMG (SC)

KMG is a Scottish-based artist who has been creating character-based artwork for over a decade. Reflecting her curious nature, her work explores and confronts themes that range from the mundane to the precarious and is often of a subversive nature. A combination of youthful enthusiasm, tempered with a healthy smattering of defiance, imbues her work with a sarcastic and raw tone, whilst remaining playful and often raising a comforting smile.

KMG was part of Nuart Aberdeen 2021 when two murals were produced, view Mural 1 and Mural 2.

MURMURE (FR)

Paul Ressencourt and Simon Roché met during their studies in Fine Arts. Originally, one specialised in creation, graphic arts and urban arts, and the other in arts and technique, however they quickly found a common passion for drawing and street art. Intervening together in public space since 2010, they cover the walls of our cities with their drawing, murals and ephemeral exhibitions. Through their art, Murmure explore themes in a fun and poetic way in order to share their vision of the world. Childhood, the homeless, consumer society, new technologies, and the environment are among their favourite subjects. Murmure’s studio work is at the centre of each street-based project. Working with four hands, they draw mainly with graphite pencil to obtain a profound depth in shading and a realistic rendering.

It is in the studio that each project is developed before seeing the light of the day in the street through the creation of a scale 1 drawing or painting. Installed in the street, their artworks interact with the urban environment. The choice of space and the wall they will be put on, both in terms of its materials and its colours, become a narrative complement to the drawing. Time, weather, or human degradation come to perfect the work, making each one unique. Constantly in search of new forms of expression both through the technique used and by the medium chosen, Murmure unveil their works in galleries, in the street, and in monumental murals.

Nespoon Final BKT6260 Jun10 7952 x 5304 bktfoto Web Res

NESPOON (PL)

NeSpoon became active as an artist in 2009. Lace soon became their signature style. The artist explains, “I work on the border of urban art, ceramics, sculpture and painting. Sometimes I comment on social problems in my art that I consider important. I paint murals, canvases and create in-situ installations. The heart of my work is ceramic street art. Why lace? Good question. I’ve never liked lace. Before I started working with it, I thought lace was something outdated. Today it seems to me that each lace harbours harmony, balance and a sense of natural order. Isn’t that just what we are all searching for instinctively? Lace patterns began to interest me when I started working in ceramics. This is one of the most popular ways to decorate dishes all over the world. You push the lace onto fresh clay and this is how the pattern is created. One day I thought that these motifs are beautiful on their own, they don’t need an excuse such as a plate or a mug to exist. I started to make such no-purpose lace objects and glue them somewhere on the streets. Today, ceramic street art is still an important part of my activities.” Over the past 10 years, NeSpoon has worked in almost 40 countries in Europe, Australia, Asia, America, Africa and New Zealand and has participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions.

3 SNIK Final BKT4365 Jun07 7952 x 5304 bktfoto Web Res 1

SNIK (UK)

Internationally-acclaimed artists SNIK combine the creation of hand-cut, multi-layered stencils with haunting, ethereal portraiture, born from a male/female dual perspective. This traditional-craft, progressive-ethos approach has seen the duo commissioned on walls the world over; their post-industrial scenes loom large over passers-by in locations as diverse as Aberdeen (Scotland), Stavanger (Norway), Miami and Hong Kong. Away from city streets, the pair have become revered by urban contemporary art collectors in recent years, thanks to rare releases of editions that can take up to a year to produce – the smaller scale and intricacy of layered stencil work requires incredibly precise cuts and careful compositional thought. The pay off, however, has proved more than worthwhile for buyers, who covet the simple aesthetics of spilling, tangled hair and floating fabrics: a modern scrutiny of Pre-Raphaelite sensibilities. It is that questioning, accepting narrative that SNIK pursues -one that has captured the attention of critics, art-lovers and collectors alike.

This will be Snik's third time being part of Nuart Aberdeen with murals being created in 2018 and 2021.

4 Swoon Final BKT5207 Jun09 7952 x 5304 bktfoto Web Res 2

SWOON (US)

Caledonia Curry, whose work appears under the name Swoon, is a Brooklyn-based artist and is widely known as the first woman to gain large-scale recognition in the male-dominated world of street art. Callie took to the streets of New York while attending the Pratt Institute of Art in 1999, pasting her paper portraits to the sides of buildings with the goal of making art and the public space of the city more accessible. In a moment when contemporary art often holds a conflicted relationship to beauty, Callie’s work carries with it an earnestness, treating the beautiful as sublime even as she explores the darker sides of her subjects. Her work has become known for marrying the whimsical to the grounded, often weaving in slivers of fairy-tales, scraps of myth, and a recurring motif of the sacred feminine.Tendrils of her own family history—and a legacy of her parents’ struggles with addiction and substance abuse—recur throughout her work.

While much of Callie’s art plays with the fantastical, there is also a strong element of realism. This can be seen in her myriad social endeavours, including a long-term community revitalization project in Braddock, Pennsylvania and her efforts to build earthquake-resistant homes in Haiti through Konbit Shelter. Her non-profit, the Heliotrope Foundation, was created in order to further support these ventures. Today, Callie’s work can be found on the sides of buildings worldwide and has been given both permanent and transient homes in more classical institutions, including New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the Tate Modern, and the São Paulo Museum of Art. Most recently, she has begun using film animation to explore the boundaries of visual storytelling and currently is developing a project supported by the Sundance InstituteFeature Film Program.

TAMARA ALVES (PT)

Tamara Alves (b. 1983) is a Portuguese visual artist and illustrator, currently based in Lisbon. She has a degree in Arts (ESAD-IPL) and a Masters in Contemporary Artistic Practices (FBAUP) where her subject of research was “Public Activism in Urban Context”. She has always been interested in the kind of work which is inserted in the world, and fascinated with the aesthetics and urban context of the streets, in order to present her works of art in the street and public spaces. Tamara Alves weaves a narrative that celebrates in a raw, poetic way the primaeval vitality of strong sensations, of an animal becoming - of brute passion, as opposed to rational deliberation. Based on the idea that our instincts are what defines us, the artist invokes a universe of (female) human and animal figures in interaction with the natural landscape and objects imbued with a strong symbolic charge that invite us to embrace feelings as a wild and untamed driving force. A universe where love, always love (which is wound, pain, tears - but also pleasure, joy, ecstasy) can be the fruit of an impact - an accident, growing within us like a wildflower.
