Santa Claus is leaving the sleigh at home and taking the bus to get around Aberdeen this festive season.

Father Christmas has been recruited by the North East Bus Alliance to encourage shoppers to choose the bus as the season of gift-buying and celebration cranks into high gear.

The big man adds his glittering star power to a just-released online video as part of the alliance’s campaign to communicate the new bus priority measures and encourage people to make small changes to the way they get in and around town.

The video, which will be shared across social media and available to view here (and above), shows Santa Claus planning his morning trip into the city centre, before catching a bus and heading to the bright lights of Aberdeen’s main shopping thoroughfares to select his gifts.

Rab Dickson, director of Nestrans, on behalf of the North East Bus Alliance explained: “With fewer buses now being held up unnecessarily in city centre traffic, thanks to the bus priority measures, bus journey times are quicker and more predictable. This means that Christmas shoppers have more reasons to switch from the car in favour of the bus this festive season.”

According to the North East Bus Alliance, more people taking the bus more often will lead to even more improvements to public transport and further reduce congestion and pollution in the city centre.
