Our very own winter wonderland, the Curated in the Quad market at Marischal College, is set to create a magical atmosphere where you can pick out the perfect gifts for your family and friends from our amazing range of stallholders. Over the final weeks, we will introduce you to a few who are selling their interesting items at this year’s market.

Today it’s the turn of Catherine Redgate, creator of Catherine Redgate Art, an Aberdeen-based artist and illustrator selling a range of products which include her quirky characters and designs.

Catherine has developed a number of unique and interesting products that feature her own original characters and she is looking forward to showcasing her designs at Curated in the Quad. Catherine Redgate will appear at the market this weekend, 10 - 12 Dec.

Hi Catherine! Can you tell us more about you and why you set up the company?

Although graduating in Fine Art, I had always wanted to explore illustration. When the Christmas cards I designed for the medical charity I work for sold out, I thought I should explore illustration a little further. That was in 2018 and now, here I am with over 1000 products, selling online, at markets and stocking my items in shops throughout the UK and further afield!

Can you tell us about the products you are selling at the Christmas Market?

My range of homeware, gifts and functional art items aim to bring some joy to everyday living through my collection of quirky characters. From a fully illustrated game to multi-functional headwear, lens cloths to coasters, Christmas cards to stationery, there’s a great selection to suit all price brackets and hopefully help with some unique gift ideas too.

Why did you decide to take part in this year’s Christmas Market?

I’ve been part of the Quad market events for the last 2-3 years and I absolutely love it! The chalets make everything feel so Christmassy and it’s a wonderful chance to invite customers in to enjoy the atmosphere and contribute to the festive fun.

What are you looking forward to?

Being in the chalet! it’s a brilliant atmosphere and I love the fairy lights, Christmas decor and general buzz about the place. All this along with a hot chocolate from the village itself, is just the perfect way to get me into the Christmas spirit!
