The team at Aberdeen Inspired were lucky enough to meet the owners, Julie and James Haig, who’s neighbourly and friendly nature make Haigs a charming butchery, welcome for all. Both were very chatty, and excited to talk about the future of Haigs.
Established in 2007, Haigs is a family owned foodhall and butchery located in Schoolhill, opposite the Aberdeen Art Gallery. James Haig is an award-winning butcher with many years of experience and accolades under his belt, with Haig’s most recently being awarded Winning Meat Retailer of the year for 2021/2022.
Haig’s are renowned for their healthy and fresh produce, and local communities know them for their mobile shop which sells all over Aberdeen. We asked James and Julie what they most recommend, to which they replied that their plain meats are the most popular, but would recommend the Jack Daniels filled chicken.
James told us the wonderful news that he has just signed a 15-year lease on the shop and plans to regenerate Haigs to cater to those who are coming home from a night out. This new business plan involves expanding the kitchen, being open for more hours, hiring more local people, and serving all sorts of hot homemade food, such as burgers, wraps, duck, lamb, chicken, chips, there’s even plans for an ice cream parlour!
We encourage all of you to support local at Haigs, and you can also spend your Aberdeen Gift Card there!
