Comedy in touch

Six side-splitting comedians to bring star power to Aberdeen International Comedy Festival

Six new hilarious acts have just been added to the line-up for this October joining headliners which include the likes of David O’Doherty, Milton Jones, Harry Hill, Jack Dee, Sofie Hagen and many more.

Added to the star-studded line-up is the self-depreciating Brennan Reece, much-loved Hal Cruttenden, effortlessly funny Jojo Sutherland, the hysterical Liam Withnail, gleefully obscene Olga Koch and Glaswegian funny boys ‘Weegie Hink Ae That?’ Many of these shows will debut at the Edinburgh Fringe in August and it’s great news that they will follow this by touring to Aberdeen which is building a strong reputation as a leading destination for comedy.

Businesses can get involved with the festival in lots of ways. It’s a great way to treat your team, socialise with busines contacts or simply get together with a group of family or friends. And with the festival marketing aiming to reaching a Scotland wide audience hospitality providers should put together deals for accommodation and short breaks and restaurants and bars can look to promote special ‘festival’ deals for food and drinks.

If you want to get in touch to make a group booking or to let us know what you’re planning to help encourage visitors to the city to stay, eat and drink during the festival days and nights then simply get IN Touch by emailing - Info@aberdeeninspired.com

The final shows are currently being programmed and it is expected the full festival line up will be unveiled mid August.

Nuart Aberdeen 2022 hailed a success

Nuart Aberdeen 2022 lived up to its promise this year to reconnect people, when thousands flocked to the city centre to take in the street art and join in on the festival fun, and we are thrilled to announce the festival will return next year!

Treasured by locals and visitors alike Nuart Aberdeen has, since it first landed in the city in 2017, now been woven into the fabric of the city and has enhanced Aberdeen’s unique character. Over 10 days, huge walls in Aberdeen City Centre were transformed into world class works of public art by a line-up of artists who have created murals all over the globe from Europe to North America. Two of the 2022 murals even made it into the ‘best of’ guide to street art around the world for June. Read more here.

Adrian Watson, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Inspired commented: “It takes a huge amount of work and genuine partnerships to make a festival like Nuart Aberdeen possible and I’d like to thank Aberdeen City Council who took a risk and supported the festival since its inception.

“Together with many other local businesses, wall owners, property agents, the Universities, NESCol and our army of local volunteers we all deliver a street art festival that is second to none in the world by fostering genuine, productive and mutually beneficial working partnerships, all for the benefit of the city and its people.”

If you haven't had a chance to get out to see the latest murals, you can view our downloadable map here and take yourself on a self guided walking tour.

Make sure to check out the Nuart Aberdeen 2022 Film here.

Nuart Aberdeen is thankful for the funding from Aberdeen City Council to help deliver the festival and also for the hard work, commitment and dedication of over 80 local volunteers who helped make this year such a huge success.

20220625 Aberdeen Umbrella Project 013

Umbrellas shower Aberdeen in colour

At the end of June, we launched our Umbrella Project in partnership with the ADHD Foundation. The displays aim to raise awareness of and to celebrate the ‘umbrella’ term of neurodiversity, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia. The project also aims to raise awareness of the support that is available to individuals and families.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all our sponsors - Harbour Energy, the Scottish Government’s ‘Scotland Loves Local’ fund, Goodsons, CNR, Robert Andrew Strachan, Union Square, PwC, Crossenergy, Torus BGP, and Lindsey & Andy Ritchie.

You can find the umbrellas on Shiprow and Bon Accord Terrace and they will be up until September 2022. You can also spot some mini umbrella installations at Aberdeen City Library, Aberdeen Douglas Hotel, TMM Recruitment, Trinity Shopping Centre, Namaste Delhi and many more. Keep your eyes peeled for our reel coming soon featuring all the businesses installations!

Taxi rank Aberdeen

Make your thoughts heard on Aberdeen’s Taxis

As the city recovers and regenerates, transport to and from our city centre is a common concern with taxi availability being mentioned by many to be negatively affecting customer experience.

In looking to address this issue, Aberdeen City Council are contemplating a potential to review the street knowledge test to address declining driver numbers. A consultation is open with businesses and members of the public invited to give their opinions here. The consultation closes on Friday 5 August and the results will be reported back to the Licensing Committee in September.
