All Bar One at Marischal Square aims to offer its guests the best experience – bar none.

We caught up with general manager Roy Morrison to find out more about the ethos of this popular eatery, what their plans are for the next 12 months – and how much they are enjoying being part of Aberdeen Restaurant Week.

Tell us about All Bar One at Marischal Square.

All Bar One is the perfect place to meet new people and experience new food, new drinks, and something a little bit different.

So, we have a lot of different experiences and a lot of different offers here, be it breakfast, teas, coffees, right through lunch and dinner to late-night drinks, cocktail masterclasses and lots of other things we offer.

What do you like about being based in the City Centre?

Being in the city centre for us is extremely helpful. You get a lot of transient traffic coming though. There are good travel links with trains and buses, and we have a good shopping centre as well. All of that brings decent traffic through.

What are the benefits for All Bar One of being an Aberdeen Inspired levy payer?

It gives us a good opportunity to be aware of developments in the city and the things that are being planned at the BID network meetings.

There is also the networking aspect and being able to speak to businesses you wouldn’t get a chance to in day-to-day operations, which is always handy.

And of course we are in the middle of Aberdeen Inspired’s Aberdeen Restaurant Week. The first time we did Restaurant Week was in the August edition, last year, and we saw a huge, huge jump in business. We’re looking forward to a good couple of weeks while restaurant week is on.

What advice would you give to new businesses looking to set up in the city centre?

If it’s a hospitality-based industry, you need to be fully guest focused. One of our big driving factors here at All Bar One is looking after guests as best we possibly can.

Everything is getting very expensive nowadays, there’s no two ways about it, so it’s about giving the best bang for your buck and offering a worthwhile experience people want to come back and enjoy again and again.

What would be the biggest improvement to the city centre in your opinion?

There’s a lot of negativity about at the moment, which doesn’t help the situation. We need to be positive and focused on looking to change Aberdeen for the better. It’s about trying to get back on the upswing again and if we just focus on the negativity that’s never going to happen.

When you’re not working where is your favourite place or thing to do in Aberdeen?

I’m a fiend for pottering around pubs, whether that be All Bar One – which I have a bit of bias for – or just dotting around the pubs up and down Union Street. There’s always something different and you always run into a few characters.
